This time, we received a request for an overhaul of an OMEGA Speedmaster.
Repair Request: Not moving even when wound
The Speedmaster we received this time had the following issue:
"The watch stopped moving even when wound, so I'd like to have it working again."
When mechanical watches are used for many years, various factors such as deterioration of internal lubricants, wear of parts, and deterioration of the mainspring can lead to accuracy issues or operational failures.
After examining the watch's condition, we determined that in addition to a standard overhaul, several parts would need to be replaced.

Overhaul
The watch movement is disassembled, and the condition of each part is checked.
After cleaning the parts, lubricants are applied to necessary areas, and the movement is reassembled, with adjustments made to the beat rate and various mechanisms.
Especially for chronograph-equipped models like the Speedmaster, which have more parts than standard three-hand watches, detailed inspection, including the chronograph mechanism, is crucial.
Replacement of Chronograph Hand Collet
The "collet" of a chronograph hand is a small, pipe-shaped part that secures the watch hand to the axis of the movement.
If this part wears out or loosens, it may no longer be able to securely hold the hand.
After checking its condition, we replaced the collet of the chronograph hand this time.
Replacement of Chronograph Mechanism Jewels and Bushings
Inside a mechanical watch, components called "jewels," such as artificial rubies, are used to ensure stable rotation of the gear axles.
In some places, bushings are used to support the axles.
If wear progresses over many years of use, the gear axles can develop play, which can hinder proper operation.
Especially for chronographs, which are mechanisms where multiple parts work together, even slight misalignment or wear can affect their operation.
This time, we checked the condition of the jewels and bushings in the chronograph mechanism and performed the necessary replacements.
Replacement of Winding Pinion
The winding pinion is one of the important gears that form the winding mechanism, transmitting power from the crown to the mainspring.
If this part is worn or damaged, the mainspring may not be wound properly even when the crown is turned.
This time, we inspected the winding mechanism and replaced the winding pinion.
Mainspring Replacement
The mainspring is a crucial component that stores the energy to power a mechanical watch.
The mainspring is wound by turning the crown, and the force of the mainspring unwinding drives the gears, operating the watch.
Over long periods of use, the mainspring can suffer from metal fatigue and deterioration, potentially breaking or becoming unable to store sufficient power.
This Speedmaster also required a mainspring replacement.
