CONTÉVANOU: The revival of watch and jewelry repair techniques

The name CONTÉVANOU is inspired by two ideas: the vintage decorative technique known as the “Continuous Concept,” in which the bracelet and case are visually connected as one continuous design — famously seen in the Patek Philippe Ref. 3588/2 — and the concept of a comptoir de travail, a dedicated workbench where skilled handwork is carried out with patience and precision.

Traditional hand-finishing demands time, concentration, and perseverance. Creating fine decorative finishes on watches and jewelry can require many hours, or even several days, spent carefully working by hand with specialized tools. Much like knitting by hand, the process is built upon countless small, precise movements. Machine-applied decoration may achieve consistency and efficiency, but hand-finishing reveals the subtle individuality and character of the artisan’s work.

At CONTÉVANOU, this spirit is expressed through what we call the “Continuous Concept”: the pursuit of perfection through steady, uncompromising work, even in tasks that may appear routine.

A battery replacement, for example, is never treated as simply removing one battery and installing another. We consider the age and condition of the watch, the state of the electronic circuit, the possibility of current leakage, and whether replacing the battery alone will restore proper function or whether further repair may be required.

We also pay close attention to the effects that moisture, air, perspiration, and everyday wear can have on a watch over time. Our aim is always to preserve as much of the original watch as possible while maintaining its functionality. When a water-resistant gasket requires attention, we assess its condition carefully, lubricate it where appropriate, or recommend replacement when necessary.

For us, the “Continuous Concept” means never becoming careless simply because a task is familiar. It means approaching every process with the same concentration and respect for the object in front of us.

From watch overhauls and battery replacement to polishing, engraving, and jewelry restoration, we approach every job with the precision and care of threading a needle.

At the same time, CONTÉVANOU does not seek to be pretentious. We remain conscious of our roots as a local watch and jewelry shop, serving each customer and each individual piece with care.

The great watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet created watches not merely as objects of possession, but as instruments shaped by function, elegance, ingenuity, and the needs of the people for whom they were made. We believe there is much to learn from that spirit.
